New Tau Rumors

Tau, my favorite army. This is from Warseer from dante76.

Here is what he said:

Pencilled in release date of Aug 2011

New Alien allies
All metal sets to plastic (Pathfinder, Krootox, Vespids)
Possible new tank
Changes to Hammerhead Railgun rules. Essentially draws a line across table hitting everything in line. Multiple pen through vehicles, only stopped by a glancing hit.
Changes to markerlights. Point system. 1 Markerlight point = + 1BS, 2 Markerlight points = reroll to wound/hit 3 = Difficult Terrain test (blinded by the lights?). Cannot be stacked. So cant have reroll to wound and reroll to hit at 4 points.
Battle Suits. A plug and play system. Essentially streamlined. Pick two guns and a skill or two skills a gun. New models might have interchangeable arms similar to Killa Kans....

I am not going to go into if I believe them or not. It's possible, but I am taking it with some salt.

Still, potentially great new for my favorite army. You can expect this blog to go all Tau All The Time, if this comes up (next year).

On other news, the table has gone well, better story of it soon!

  1. These look like wishlisting, for the most part, especially the HH Railgun. The Markerlight rules look... horrible. New allies and simpler battlesuit rules seem like a given, though.

I would be very surpised to see Tau in 2011; there are several other factions that seem more likely (Necrons, DE, WH, BT, DA).

  2. New tank had better be good. Turret options for the hammerhead would work just as well, for most problems, so a new tank is difficult to come up with. Necrons need new armour support as well - something just larger than a tomb spyder with light armour and living metal. Hopefully an arachnid crawler of some sort.

For the sake of streamlining, it might be preferable if all railguns worked that way, with a difference between effects on infantry and vehicles so that Pathfinder railguns cannot pass throgh tanks, and tank railguns do not cause multiple wounds on infantry. The words 'multiple pen through vehicles' is probably more frightening than the reality. How often do vehicles sit in a line unobstructed by terrain and cover?

New markerlight rules are simple, but not helpful.

Simpler battlesuits are much appreciated, though hopefully there will not be any loss of the mqin options. The 'one per army' battlesuit systems could be streamlined, rather than removed entirely. They make much more sense if they are purchased for battlesuit squads, rather than for single models.

  3. Markelrights looks easier, plastics always good and the Hammerhead getting more bang for its 50pts is good.

As for AbusePuppy, its possible we'll see them next year. With DE in November, GK in January that leaves 3-4 slots next year. Necrons (probably) have one of them, and half of them will be marine chapters so that leaves one... And when have GW ever done a codex that needs doing instead of one that might make them some money? Tau would sell more than BT i think

  4. I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see tau next year. After this next realm of codexs (Grey Knights, Necrons, DE). They came out early in 4th edition (2005?) and are one of the oldest that still has a substantial following. They aren't Eldar or Chaos Space Marines... who I would say are more popular, but they are older then both of those armies. They also don't require a rebuilt from the ground up. A few new plastic kits, some rules re-writes and *bam* they sell like hot cakes.

I'm actually betting on the barracuda for tau as a fast attack choice and not a new 'tank'. But who knows, maybe we will get the actual dreadnought style tau walker with 2x twin linked railguns I've always wanted.

    A man can dream...
